It was during the late 80's and early 90's when I had my first 'run-in' with music. Bhangra was 'rockin', and I was experincing fresh, original sounds and fusions from bands such as The Sahotas, Pardesi, Heera, DCS. By the time I was around 12 years of age, I had brought a dholak and tabla from India, and then later on, purchased a small keyboard. Me and my older brother started jammin and makin noise!
My passion and love for music became evidently stronger when I realised I had the natural ability to play by ear, the beats and melodies of the songs I loved. In school, I decided to take drum lessons and started a band. Later on, I was making music at home on my computer, and played alot of my ideas to friends and family who liked my music. Having withdrawn from 3 different universities to follow my heart and not my head, my passion for music could be described as 'madly in love'.
I hav always been surrounded by music and instruments as far as I can remember, my earliest memory being when I was four. My Dad used to play the harmonium and sing, while I sat on his laps.
I have been inspired and influenced by many people, but to mention a few are, Ustad Nasrat Fateh Ali Khan, Bob Marley, AR Rahman, Michael Jackson, Ghulam Ali and The Sahotas. I have grown up listening to these artists and have come to realise that the strings of music are attached to the heart.......!
